PlasmaTalk: Efficient use of dyne inks for the analysis of surface activation

You need to characterize the surface tension of your components in a reproducible way? You want to know what the surface energy is at different points in your production (incoming goods, production line or final inspection)? You work with different cleaning processes and want to adjust the process correctly?

Then we have the right PlasmaTalk for you: We show you different ways to measure the surface energy of your components. Each method has advantages and disadvantages in terms of measurement speed and accuracy. Some can be used inline others only outside the production processes. Aspects such as substrate, geometry or environmental conditions sometimes significantly influence the results. 

In this PlasmaTalk, we will focus in particular on the use of test inks. Using different substrates, we will show you how to use the test inks in a targeted manner along your production process and how to evaluate the results in a reproducible manner - especially on geometrically critical components. In this context, we also demonstrate the effect of an Openair-Plasma® treatment.

After participating in PlasmaTalk "Efficient use of test inks" you will know more about:

  • Selection of the appropriate measurement method for surface energies
  • Selection and application of test inks
  • Influencing parameters on the measurement result (e.g. material, geometry and surface roughness)
  • Do`s and Don`ts in handling

This no-charge PlasmaTalk is aimed at research, development and quality control personnel as well as designers, process engineers and operators of production equipment in industrial processes.

The PlasmaTalk will last approximately 40-60 minutes plus a question and answer session. If you have a specific question, please send it in advance to so that we can incorporate it into the program.

    Markus Prinz (M. Sc.)

    Markus Prinz (M. Sc.) has been working as an application engineer at Plasmatreat Singapore since 2017. 

    During this time, he has gained countless experiences in the development and implementation of innovative Openair-Plasma® applications. Having been involved in many different applications, he is well versed in the analysis of the most difficult surfaces.


    Tanja Pawlenko

    Tanja Pawlenko is former Vice Team Leader Application Technology Research and Development at Plasmatreat's subsidiary in southern Germany and has now changed her position to Technical Sales.

    With long-standing experience in plasma technology applications, she has gained an extensive understanding of surfaces and their characteristics. This knowledge enables her to develop plasma surface treatments that are precisely tailored to the application.


    Ryan Robinson

    Ryan Robinson (PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics) is working as a Senior Applications Engineer at Plasmatreat North America, Hayward, CA. After he got his PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics from Drexel University, Philadelphia PA, College of Engineering in 2018, he worked as a private consultant for plasma engineering and chemistry applications. Specialized with non-thermals plasma applications for disinfection and water treatment for agricultural and food industry applications.

    Andrew Sy

    Andrew Sy, (B. Mc.) started his career as a Jabil Scholar Intern at the Jabil Blue Sky Innovation Center before he became an Applications Engineer for Plasmatreat North America in 2020.  He is experienced in process development, using low-pressure and atmospheric plasma systems for various industries and applications with specific considerations on materials science aspects.  He is knowledgeable with the assessment of plasma-deposited coatings through mechanical testing, water contact angle goniometry, reflectometry, and optical microscopy.
